* Some versions of Microsoft® Works include Microsoft® Word; others do not.  Microsoft® WORD (not Works) is required to run Writer's Workbench.  To determine if you have Microsoft® Word loaded on your computer, click Start, Programs, and click on the  icon and entry for Microsoft Word.  If Word opens, your system should be fine to run Writer's Workbench.  If you cannot find the entry for Microsoft Word, you will need to purchase Microsoft Word to be able to use Writer's Workbench.  Microsoft® Word is included in all current versions of Microsoft® Office.

** Later versions of Microsoft® Windows and Word require more memory and processing power.  For example, if you are using Word '97 on a computer running Windows '95 or Windows '98, you can probably get by with a 100 MHz system with 64 MB of RAM.  If you are using Word 2000 on a Windows 2000 system, a minimum requirement would be a 200 MHz system with 64 MB of RAM, but 128 MB of RAM is recommended.  If you are using Word XP on a Windows XP system, a 300 MHz system with 128MB of RAM would run, but 256 MB of RAM is recommended.  Please see Microsoft's requirements pages for details.
